And you’re going to encounter plenty of uncertainty along the way. In this edition of the B2B Lounge, Kelly Hanratty, Leopard’s Executive Director of Account Services and Operations, talks with Marketing Strategist Steve Mudd about some of the things she’s learned over years of experience on both the agency and client side. Do we want them to be a consultative day-to-day partner—or a SWAT team that cranks out solutions at speed?
A client’s search for the right agency doesn’t start with a close evaluation of the agency’s reputation, capabilities or work samples, but rather with a tough evaluation of themselves: What are we good at? What’s our tolerance for strong ideas that may be at odds with our own?
There is less chance for someone to edit out what they want to say.
Speed daters are trying to narrow down their choices by eliminating the unsuitable; conversely, speed networkers are trying to broaden their connections by increasing their exposure.
Speed networking can be based on one of three models: meeting random attendees sequentially in a round robin, meeting with specific people based on preassigned match ups (the first two models are one-on-one), or a third assembly-based model where individuals speak to a preselected group.
Participants greet each other in a series of brief exchanges during a set period of time.
During an interaction, attendees share their professional backgrounds and business goals.
Speed networking (or speed business meeting) is a meeting format designed to accelerate business contacts, generally with a bell.
Primarily, the practice involves multiple people that gather in a single space in order to exchange information. The Ashkenazi Jewish shadchan, or the Hindu astrologer, were often thought to be essential advisors and also helped in finding right spouses as they had links and a relation of good faith with the families. In cultures where arranged marriages were the rule, the astrologer often claimed that the stars sanctified matches that both parents approved of, making it quite difficult for the possibly-hesitant children to easily object – and also making it easy for the astrologer to collect his fee.Meanwhile, in the United Kingdom, speed networking was introduced by Michael Piddock, future founder of event technology company Glisser, to increase employee-to-employee connections in corporate events.Although the techniques for speed dating and speed networking can be similar – individuals paired or grouped together for the purpose of introduction – the practices differ in their end goals.Matchmakers, acting as formal chaperones or as self-employed 'busybodies' serving less clear social purposes, would attend such events and advise families of any burgeoning romances before they went too far.
