Then came Fernando Sucre (Amaury Nolasco) from Prison Break. At the time, my country (the Philippines) have adapted a lot of telenovelas from Mexico and I only relied on Thalia’s Fernando Jose as an icon on the undying Maria Mercedes series. But either way it is my business who I date not stupid people on the street.
For some Black women, a man must be Black; first, foremost and always.
At the end of a "The Nightly Show" segment, Larry Wilmore asked Jacque Reid a 'Keeping It 100' question that I have since adopted and asked of other Black women to see what motivates us when we think about our relationships.
We went to his friends shop and his friends wife asked him if he was crazy dating a black woman.
I have spoken about Latinxs extensively over the past 2 weeks on FB and have commented on a few of your posts. A little background about me so you can contextualize my perspective. My mother is black and my father is a non blk Colombian.
The way he loved Maricruz in those final episodes (she was pregnant, if you remember) made me think that “one day, I will have my own papi too.” And I did. He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named and You-Know-Who made me believe in the goodness of men. It’s “I like you” or “I don’t like you.” And yes, asking a Mexican man if you look fat in that dress will always end in a Greek tragedy. When I came to Argentina, I started eating Doritos with a power hot sauce all over it and my friends were like, “Doritos with hot sauce? ” I smiled and whispered to myself, “the Mexicans.” A bottle of hot sauce will always serve as their icon. But let me tell you that it never ends bad with Mexicans — ending a relationship with them is always a good note, regardless of what you’ve been through.
While everyone had the hots for the unbelievably stunning Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller), I appreciated Sucre’s mexicanism more.
The fathers don’t want their daughter with bm but don’t mind bw with their sons. They see the status of bp in this country and assume they have a fighting chance if they can distance themselves. BW should not let GL’s outburst scare them away from Latinos who show interest. Subconsciously he had no fear of getting away with it. He would have never addressed a Latina or WW that way. GL has been around enough bm comedians to absorb what they think about bw. Definitely not bm, not Latinos who love bw, not Latinas (lol as if), nobody. I didn’t agree with some comments you made about immigration and how these groups are learning how it feels to be in our shoes.
Latinos can be colorstruck – more than black ppl in my opinion and want each generation lighter – it’s called improve the race. My Colombian father was not happy about me dating a Mexican. I’m not going to go into details here but you can go to my page and read my thoughts about that if you want. A lot of white people are hostile and want them out but a lot of white people are sleeping in courts and marching for them.
I did not know there was a problem with a black woman dating a Mexican guy.
Just need some insight, experience, and suggestions on how to handle when someone says something rude. PS: Also, he is light skin so he might look like a different race to them, definitely not white though.
I asked Black women who are married, single, divorced and dating this question: You're being sent to a habitable planet and you're now 'Eve'.
