The example-* files provide a template for using and submitting the biographical sketches the NIH wants. They (potentially) use denselists package, which just reduces list spacing; the package is distributed with the class, but is not part of the class proper. The Te X Users Group (TUG) was founded in 1980 to provide an organization for people who are interested in typography and font design, and/or are users of the Te X typesetting system invented by Donald Knuth.
Together with the Metafont language for font description and the Computer Modern family of typefaces, Te X was designed with two main goals in mind: to allow anybody to produce high-quality books using minimal effort, and to provide a system that would give exactly the same results on all computers, at any point in time.Te X is free software, which made it accessible to a wide range of users.Otherwise, you will have to look around and make up your own mind and choose one (or more) of these packages. It is probably worth saying that there is no reason why you should only use one package all the time - some things are easier to do, or get nicer results with one package, other things with another. If you're looking for help, you can get community support via a public mailing list (texhax), forum (latex-community.org), q&a site (tex.stackexchange.com), or in other ways.
Te X Live 2017 and Mac Te X 2017 and pro Te Xt for 2017 have been released.
When the second edition of the second volume was published, in 1976, the whole book had to be typeset again because the Monotype technology had been largely replaced by phototypesetting, and the original fonts were no longer available.
Around that time, Knuth saw for the first time the output of a high-quality digital typesetting system, and became interested in digital typography.
It has largely displaced Unix troff, the other favored formatting system, in many Unix installations, which use both for different purposes.
It is also used for many other typesetting tasks, especially in the form of La Te X, Con Te Xt, and other template packages.
